Question

How do you reset a cPanel user's password?

Note: Please keep in mind that cPanel support is unable to change the login credentials for end-users for security reasons. If you do not have root access to the server, you need to reach out to your hosting provider for assistance in resetting the root password.

 

Answer

There are several different ways to reset a cPanel user password using the different interfaces in the software.

WHM
  1. Log in to WHM as the 'root' user or reseller (if the account is owned by a reseller)
  2. Navigate to Home / Account Information / List Accounts
  3. Open the + menu next to the account
  4. Select the option to Change Password
cPanel
  1. Access Home / Preferences / Password & Security
  2. Input the old password, followed by the new password. Alternatively, use the Password Generator to create a secure password for you.
  3. Retype the new password to confirm.
  4. Select Change your password now!

Note: Successfully changing your password from the user account will end your current session and require you to log in again with the new password.

cPanel Login Page
  1. Access the cPanel login page at https://domain.tld:2083 where domain.tld is your cPanel-hosted domain name.
  2. Select the option to Reset Password
  3. Follow the prompts to have a password reset email sent to your contact address set up on your account.
