Introduction
With WHM/cPanel, you might find that at times you might want to reset your cPanel password for purposes such as best practice or routine security. You can do so from both the WHM & cPanel accounts. If you do not have the root password, then you will need to reach out to your hosting provider for assistance in resetting the root password.
Please keep in mind cPanel support is unable to change the login credentials for end-users for security reasons.
Procedure
There are several different ways to reset a cPanel user password using the different interfaces in the software.
From WHM as root or the reseller:
- Access "WHM / Account Information / List Accounts"
- Open the "+" menu next to the account
- Select the option to "Change Password"
From the cPanel user's account:
- Access "Home / Preferences / Password & Security"
- Input the old password, followed by the new password.
Alternatively, use the Password Generator to create a secure password for you. - Retype the new password to confirm.
- Select "Change your password now!"
- Successfully changing your password from the user account will end your current session and require you to log in again with the new password.
From the cPanel login page:
- Access the cPanel login page at domain.tld:2083 where domain.tld is your cPanel-hosted domain name.
- Select the option to "Reset Password"
- Follow the prompts to have a password reset email sent to your contact address set up on your account.
