Question
In some cases, the transfer tool seems to be taking a while to restore the account, and you would like to know why.
Answer
Generally, the transfer process will explain which step it is on. One of the longest parts of the transfer process is the following step:
[260621][RESTORE:1 ][A:cpuser ]: Streaming home directory from source server …
[260621][RESTORE:1 ][A:cpuser ]: receiving incremental file list
During this process, the account's files are moved from the old server to the new one. Accounts with a large number of files—such as email accounts, media libraries, cached data, or backup archives—can significantly slow down the transfer process. This is especially true when the system needs to scan, compare, and stream thousands of individual files.
Additionally, a slow-performing storage device on either the source or destination server can further impact performance, causing delays or timeouts during the transfer. However, many factors determine overall performance, such as hardware and network speeds, and the size of the account.
This process can take an extended amount of time to complete, and there are usually no issues at that step. However, we recommend watching the transfer for a while and allowing the server to continue its data transfer.
