Error when running upcp: The “/usr/local/cpanel/scripts/update-packages” command (process xxxx) reported error number 1 when it ended.

Symptoms

The daily cPanel update fails with an error similar to the following.

CONFIG_TEXT: [2024-04-19 04:16:02 +0700] E [/usr/local/cpanel/scripts/update-packages] The "/usr/local/cpanel/scripts/update-packages" command (process 4191455) reported error number 1 when it ended.

Cause

The update-packages script runs the operating systems package manage, such as yum, dnf for REHL based Operating Systems, or apt for Ubuntu, and will return an error if the package manager encounters an error.

Resolution

Run the package manager for your server to check what errors are being returned.

The specific error returned will have to be addressed.
