102 EDGE Version new whm theme
Hi
When I installed the 102 edge version for testing, I saw that the whm theme changed and I didn't like it at all.
Will we be able to use the old whm theme in version 102?

@PeteS - if you scroll to the right, is there a block of text in the "Upgrade Opportunities" column that's making that row larger?
Yup! *eye roll* The reason I didn't notice is because it's a frame and the scrollbar ONLY is visible if you go to the bottom of the list instead of the browser window scrollbar! I hadn't even missed seeing the "upgrade opportunities" column, which are perfectly cut off with my screen width. It would be nicer to have a tool tip there that will show on mouse-over.0 -
Oh that's been mentioned for sure - I'm not a fan of the scrollbar not being easily visible. 0 -
I've been using WHM 102.0 for almost 2 months now and I took the time to familiarize and understand the changes before criticizing the graphic overhaul. After 2 months, I still don't appreciate it and I still don't understand how this makeover is an upgrade over the previous template. I don't use mobile to manage the server and I would appreciate if desktop users were not ignored. We still account for something in the usage stats. I would also appreciate if WHM didn't force me to use this and let me go back to the old template. Everything I look for in WHM now takes twice to thrice as long, because I'm facing a WALL OF MONOTONE TEXT instead of colorful icons. Everything looks so sad and the few remaining icons in the main page bodies are in B&W except for a seemingly random touch of orange on each one of them. It's so minimalist and drab that it makes me think the designer was fired to save costs and that the programmer now has two jobs but is being paid only for one, which is kind of insulting, given the price hijacks we've been eating over the last year. Not impressed and not satisfied. Would really like an option to go back to the old template. That was my opinion. Pretty sure it won't change anything, but I took my own unpaid time to express it on here just in case. 0 -
We are now on 104.0.5 (this was started in 102), but I can't find a reference to this anywhere else, and so it might as well go here? After a recent update the List Accounts table now show some accounts' row with greater height then the rest. I see no reason for it int eh table data and nothing wraps. It's not a big deal, but is annoying. (I think the cause is on cell is being triggered by something to set a greater height, but I couldn't find it easily.) Is anyone else seeing this? alt="Screenshot 2022-07-08 123752.png">78837

I think the page break caused you to miss the cPanel followup (top post, this page). Thank you for the response, though.0 -
For what it's worth, I haven't heard of issues with browser compatibility until just now. I exclusively use Firefox, as many users do, and haven't experienced issues. 0 -

pay more and receive less quality
I find this is true and especially over the last 2-3 years, it seems like WHM quality has been steadily decreasing and the prices have soared, yet, I regularly have to rely on open source (and/or free) solutions to patch where WHM lacks, which is kind of ridiculous given the licence price we pay.0 -
Don't even waste your time arguing in this forum my friend, I've been fighting since January like many others. 7 months have passed and no documentation to customize the theme exists
Yeah, no offense to the staff who are actually trying to help though the history I've had with cPanel means that they're just going to do whatever they want like a high school science experiment with a substitute teacher. Sometime next year I'm going to hire a full time developer to make a new control panel for managing my web servers. You can modify the CSS of any domain/page/etc; just use the Stylus extension, it's how I have dark mode working on all websites that I visit on a regular basis:0 -
CPANEL! WHM Version 102.0.19 @cPRex, what has happened!?!? I have created a new account on a server and it says it's on the "Paper Lantern (deprecated)" theme but this new account clearly isn't. Other accounts on the server are loading in Paper Lantern absolutely fine. How do I fix this ? ! How can I go in and Edit the CPanel Files (via SSH) to set them to use the Actual Paper Lantern rarther than the current, er, "theme".? 0 -
@martin MHC - what is your cPanel version on that machine? Could you possibly be on Glass, since there are no icons? 0 -

Sorry, should have said; it's 102.0.19 and as far as server details go nothing mentions Glass. I don't think we've ever used glass. Cheers.0 -

You can modify the CSS of any domain/page/etc; just use the Stylus extension, it's how I have dark mode working on all websites that I visit on a regular basis: its deprecation schedule. After that, development can begin on quality of life improvements (like dark mode) as early as 2023-Q1 (arriving in v112). Here are the things on the "quality of life" focused backlog (no particular order):
- For WHM (2087)
- A dark mode for Jupiter:2087 (whm)
- Adding further options to customize in Jupiter:2083, including fonts, additional colors, and imagery
- Being able to look up users by the domains, email accounts or mailing lists on their account (ex. "search for exampleaddondomain.com in WHM's top search and find exampleuser, tap down and enter to log in as that user") to speed up tech support activities and improve time to resolution on your customer tickets
- Ranking results in the side navigation of WHM by relevance, rather than in the currently structured way
- Listing recently logged in users with a link to login as them directly on the WHM index page
- For cPanel (2083)
- Bring the left navigation style from WHM into cPanel, including search and pinned Favorites
- Expanding the list of "Starting Points" offered to users when they first log in to include creating email accounts or deploying an application, with intent to add this area to our SDK so that you or plugin developers can create your own Starting Points
- Redesign File Manager to look more Jupiter and add drag-and-drop upload directly into the currently opened folder
- Identify and ship a modern replacement for Visitors and Webalizer with the intent for users to see how popular their work is with the public directly after logging in to their account...without needing to give this data to Google.
- Listing email accounts directly on the Jupiter:2083 index page so that users can check email inboxes quickly
- Listing WordPress installations and "log in to WordPress admin" links directly on Jupiter:2083's index page so that users can jump quickly into their WordPress sites
- For Webmail (2096)
- Retire Horde and lean into deeper integration with Roundcube
- Redesign "Configure mail client" and "Configure calendar and contacts client" experiences into a friendly wizard-like experience to improve the success rate of users configuring their phones to check their email accounts
- Retire the Email Filters interface once Mailsieve support has been added and Roundcube's filter experience is wired up to it
- For all interfaces
- Providing a rich notification experience so that you can post messages directly to individual users or collection of users, and they can see recent notifications, mark them as read in an inbox-like experience. Providing APIs so that plugins can post messages via this mechanism as well.
0 - For WHM (2087)

An additional issue that we've encountered today; is that the WHM interface does not highlight the requirement for a server reboot enough, it'a tucked away in a click-on drop down menu that no one ever uses. Therefore we have a server requiring a reboot but we don't know how long this has been required- Please can WHM update this top line to present some sort of clearly visible indicator that server needs attention / reboot . The very quick example I use here is the Gold Star, If there's a Star, the server needs to be rebooted. No star. no Reboot. Simple. Very, very fast to use. Far more obivious to see. You don't need to put a star on but some sort of more obvious graphical highlight to show the server needs to be rebooted would be very useful. Current Version 102.0.20 . Thank you. 0 -
@martin MHC - thanks for bringing that up. That's a known issue that we have fixed in version 106, but it hasn't been backported yet to 104 or 102. In version 106 you'll see the notification area look like this, where the circle is red with the notification indicator dot: Do you think that's enough to improve the visibility or would you like to see something even more pronounced on the page? 0 -

That's great this aspect is already being addressed. I think it would be unfair to say without using it if it highlights it enough, but will see what other at MHC think when we reach v106 (or it's backported). As I've written the post about it my awareness is at the top now! Cheers0 -
So, Jupiter theme won't even have different styles? We're being forced to use this one, ugly theme everywhere with 0 options? Has anyone taken a stab yet at creating user style sheets to make it look semi-decent? -Michael 0 -
*Eventually* we plan to have styles available, but I don't have any type of timeframe on when that will happen. 0 -

It won't work. They did their best remove what we like... If you find an alternative please let us know.0 -
Jupiter continues to be a horrible experience. It hurts my eyes, to much bright colours, make me naussea and I actually had clients who wanted to transfer to other hosting companies when the interface was switched from retro to Jupiter. I had to show them papern_lantern to convince to stay. The state of Jupiter now feels like a soup without salt. Tasteless. 0 -

I'm in agreement with the general consensus here, that Jupiter is hard to look at/work with. I will acknowledge the improvements made so far but they are not enough, and even worse, would not have been needed IF PROPER beta testing and end-user input had preceded the roll-out! I like where it's going actually, and would be pushing it... if it was ready to go, but it's not! One simple example: The latest update made a change in the scroll bar for the left column. Previously the handle was lighter than the scroll bar background - usually the handle would be darker - so they made it darker. (At least this is my guess as to what they were thinking.) I know this because I could compare it with a server that had not yet updated. BUT... the handle is now the same as the left column background without even a boarder to help set it apart, so I naturally try to grab the scroll bar background instead of the handle! It's a small thing, sure, but super annoying, and completely unnecessary. PROPER beta testing would reveal these errors. (And yes, it IS a UI design error - makes me wonder about the qualifications/experience of the UI designer(s).) [See my screen shot: 1 = handle, 2 = background.] Again, this is just one example, but it shows the exact issue that plagues this (rush to market) development. The same thing took place with WTK's roll-out and subsequent changes! cPanel, you can do better - please learn from this and make us proud again. :) Seriously... The adage "never time to do it right; always time to do it over" definitely applies to all of this!0 -
Just updated to 106 and the grey 'header-stats' bar is ugly. It does not look keeping with the rest of the theme. It looks like an after thought. v104's top bar looked far cleaner. There's too many different font sizes, font weights and font colors in use on a single page with Jupiter WHM. For us, the range of different font styles on, for example, the WHM home page makes the page look disjointed. We would love to see the range of font styles on a single page simplified and we're sure it would make the new WHM look better and easier to read. 0 -
I've been in this industry for over 10 years. I have to say I've never seen anything such a mess as this new Jupiter theme. I CANNOT work with it. It needs to go. There's no logical reason why cPanel wouldn't allow us to customise WHM themes. In fact they don't even need to do that. They don't even need to change anything at all. They have a perfectly working "classic" WHM style version that was fully aligned and fully up to date. The new "Jupiter" theme was created to be IN ALIGNMENT with the current version of cPanel, just to replace the classic one. So frankly, the argument that it's extra work to keep two themes up to date is complete nonsense. There's no extra work at all because as you say, you're just tweaking very small things as you go along. If you really want to introduce the Jupiter theme, which I've looked on a lot of places and not just here, I haven't found one positive comment about it yet - but if you really want to introduce the Jupiter theme, then at least provide it alongside the classic WHM theme and edit it at the same time so people actually have a choice. You cannot take away people's choice like this it is simply not ethical. What cPanel are doing here is effectively what we're seeing happen all across the web with many tech companies as well. Just like Microsoft do, just like all these clunky new UI interfaces cropping up right over the web. You realise you have a monopoly on this market, and you're effectively changing your products to make it easier for people who haven't got a clue what they're doing and do not understand server management, effectively "rookies", to try and make it easier for them to manage a server. This is not possible. It doesn't work. You cannot and should not take shortcuts in this field. Not only is it not possible to achieve this, but it's also actually very dangerous, because this is why you get so many "developers" who go on some 6 week course and then suddenly believe they're a coder. You're targeting people who have no experience in this field and trying to make it easier for them to get into this, but these people do not and never will understand things to the level that is needed to manage a server. They're probably not even interested. You're targeting completely the wrong market. It's irresponsible. This is precisely the reason why so many websites get hacked, because they were built by junior developers who do not properly understand how to effectively secure a system. I see first hand the effects of this on a daily basis and just how badly developed some of these systems are. Developers like me and probably many others who have commented are left cleaning up the mess. This is not the way forward, it's the way back. WHM is a server management tool - it's not supposed to be aimed at rookies. It's for experienced professionals who know what they are doing. But what you're actually doing is trying to target the rookies and encourage them to get into something that's way out of their depth by making it look "easy", and alienating your actual core base which are the people who actually use this product. This is why I create everything myself, because you cannot rely on other people to do things properly. And to be fair I'm now considering whether I should do the same for server management software, whenever I have the time. Because I can clearly see that from this thread this is going the same way. So for that reason, I'm struggling. I cannot and will not use a product that does not function properly. If the ability to use the original style is not restored, I will have no choice but to look for and use an alternative product. I have noticed by the way you deleted my thread asking about whether the style can be reverted. This is pretty appaling really, considering I was only asking a simple question. 0 -

The thread wasn't deleted - since you're new to the Forums it has to be approved, which it has been now.0 -
150% agree with CosmoChris! Jupiter is also completely ignorant of modern UX practices - eg no visual clues. We have to scrutinize all the very similar icons to figure out which one to click! After a few days trying Jupiter, we reverted back because our productivity tanked! So please keep Paper Lantern active until this mess is sorted out. WHM is same (un-)usability design disaster! The left search bar does not search. And the 'home screen' has superfluous descriptions: Really? If you don't know what "List Accounts" does, you should not be using WHM! (suggest hover hints - enabled in newbie mode) In "List Accounts" we see this at taking up most of the screen: Has anybody at cpanel done usage studies? They would have told you ops do at least 10x more checks/configs than create new accounts. Here too our productivity has tanked! So please bring back the previous UX as an option. After all, we are paying customers! Thank You, 0
