Exim will not start: "error while loading shared libraries: libperl.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"

Symptoms

Exim will not start, and the following entry can be found in the output of systemctl status exim.

error while loading shared libraries: libperl.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Description 

Corrupt or missing cPanel packages can cause the libperl.so file to no longer be present on a system. The libperl.so file is required for Exim to run.

Workaround

1. Access the server's command line as the 'root' user via SSH or "Terminal" in WHM.
2. Run the following command.

   /scripts/check_cpanel_pkgs --fix

3. Start Exim.

   /scripts/restartsrv_exim
