Modify an Account shows is not a valid redirect URL when changing domain

Symptoms

When changing the domain of a cPanel account via "WHM Home / Account Functions / Modify an Account" an error similar to the following is shown:

CONFIG_TEXT: “%{ENV:REWRITEBASE}img/p/$1/$1$2$3.jpg” is not a valid redirect URL! at /usr/local/cpanel/Cpanel/HttpUtils/Htaccess.pm line 837.

The account may be left in a broken state with DNS zones and Apache configurations not synchronized.

Cause

When an account's main domain is modified, the .htaccess files are validated. Some rewrite rules may be processed incorrectly, leading to errors.

We've opened an internal case for our development team to investigate this further. For reference, the case number is CPANEL-54002. Follow this article to receive an email notification when a solution is published in the product.

Resolution

Remove the shown RewriteRule line from the user's .htaccess file.
