How to Prevent cPanel Users from Creating Certain Domains

Introduction

Some administrators may wish to prevent server abuse by blocking registered domains from specific countries or origins (e.g. free domains). cPanel offers this as a feature, and this article provides steps on how to add domains the server owner/administrator doesn't want to be added by a user.

Procedure

User-denied domains are controlled via the /var/cpanel/commondomains file and it's functionality must be enabled.

1. Log into WHM
2. Access Tweak Settings - "Home / Server Configuration / Tweak Settings"
3. Click the Domains tab
4. Ensure "Prevent cPanel users from creating specific domains" is On.
5. Create the file /var/cpanel/commondomains and add full domains or just top-level domains to the file. The file can be modified using nano or vi like the following:

nano /var/cpanel/commondomains

The following are examples that can be added.

a.com
b.com
c.com
.cat
.ninja
