While cPanel cannot make that decision for you, you can enable this through the WHM > Service Configuration > Mailserver Configuration.

MDBOX rotation interval (Weeks or Days)

This is the total time, in weeks or days, that an mdbox mailbox file may exist before the system rotates it. Enter a value that consists of a positive integer and the letter w for weeks or the letter d for days. For example, 2w represents a two week rotation interval.
