for an email I sent that hasn't been received on the remote mail server?

Answer

This is a common practice that large email providers such as Hotmail use. Your email is queued on their mail servers for later delivery.

You will need to contact the email provider that has queued your mail for later delivery for more details as to why it was queued on their mail server, when it will be delivered, and how to prevent future emails from being queued.
