What is a Locked License?
As the cPanel software licensing is based upon IP addresses, the license could become locked due to the license system seeing the license activated on too many systems. For example, if the license is moved several times, it may lock. It is also possible to lock a license if cPanel is installed many times within a short period of time.
To ensure that a license is being used on only one server, the cPanel license system checks certain attributes upon contacting the cPanel license servers. If these attributes are inconsistent between calls to the license servers, it will cause a license to lock.
What does a locked license look like?
Below is an image of what you might expect to see if your cPanel/WHM license has been locked. A plain text copy of the error message is also included below the image.
Cannot Read License File To access the interface, you must install the license and ensure that the license is active. How do I unlock my license?
Currently, the only way to unlock a license is to contact the cPanel Customer Service Team starting a chat, call, or submitting a ticket by clicking the "Submit a Request" button below. Please be sure to include the IP address of the server that is experiencing the locked license.
