Symptoms
When sending mail to a domain configured on the server, the message fails with the following error:
CONFIG_TEXT: user@domain.tld is undeliverable: The mail server could not deliver mail to user@domain.tld. The account or domain may not exist, they may be blacklisted, or missing the proper dns entries.
Cause
This issue will occur if the domain is not configured with the correct mail routing setup.
Resolution
The domain's Mail Routing configuration will need to be updated.
cPanel
- Access the cPanel account that manages the domain.
- Navigate to Email / Email Routing
- Select the domain you wish to edit
- Select the applicable mail routing for the domain:
- Local Mail Exchanger - The server will always accept mail for this domain. The system will deliver mail to the local mailbox.
- Remote Mail Exchanger - The server will not accept mail for this domain. The system sends all mail for this domain to the lowest numbered mail exchanger.
- Backup Mail Exchanger - The server will act as a backup mail exchanger. The system will hold mail for this domain until a lower number mail exchanger is available.
WHM
- Login to WHM
- Navigate to Home / DNS Functions / Email Routing Configuration
