Mailing list listinfo interface fails to load: TypeError: Unicode-objects must be encoded before hashing

Symptoms

When accessing the listinfo interface for a mailing list (https://domain.tld/mailman/listinfo/MailingListName_domain.tld), the following is displayed:

Bug in Mailman version 2.2.0
We're sorry, we hit a bug!
Please inform the webmaster for this site of this problem. Printing of traceback and other system information has been explicitly inhibited, but the webmaster can find this information in the Mailman error logs or the web server logs.

Description

The error is returned for both old mailing lists and new mailing lists.

We've opened an internal case for our development team to investigate this further. For reference, the case number is CPANEL-46945. Follow this article to receive an email notification when a solution is published in the product.
