Symptoms
The "mailperm" script will not correct ownership on directories that have mail group ownership (ownership should be user:user).
Directories owned by the mail group can cause the following errors to be generated:
CONFIG_TEXT: doveadm(john.doe@example.com): Error: Mailbox INBOX.Archive: file_create_locked(/home/cpuser1/mail/example.com/john.doe/.Archive/dovecot-vsize.lock) failed: safe_mkstemp(/home/cpuser1/mail/example.com/john.doe/.Archive/dovecot-vsize.lock) failed: Operation not permitted
Cause
The mailperm" script fixes invalid permissions and ownerships on mail files and folders under a given account. Folders should not be owned by the 'mail' group, which the "mailperm" script does not correct.
We've opened an internal case for our development team to investigate this further. For reference, the case number is CPANEL-51101. Follow this article to receive an email notification when a solution is published in the product.
Resolution
Manually correct ownership on any invalid directories using the chown command.
