Question
When using the DNS Cluster Feature inside WHM, you can add multiple DNSOnly servers to the DNS Cluster. Each DNS server can have a different DNS Role.
DNS Roles:
1. Synchronize Changes: All changes made on this server will propagate to any server in the cluster that is linked to this server. Synchronization is one-way: changes made on another server will not propagate to this server unless Synchronize changes is selected on the other server as well.
2. Standalone: No changes made on this server will propagate to any other servers.
3. Write-only: This server will write changes to the remote server. Changes to the remote server will not propagate back to this server. Warning: Two Write-only servers that attempt to write changes to a matching record on the same remote server will cause a conflict and may corrupt data.
However, when a server is chosen as the DNS Role 'Standalone', it will not appear on the DNS Path Diagram at the bottom of the page.
Should the 'Standalone' Role server show up in the DNS Diagram Path?
Answer
The answer, no.
'Standalone' servers are not sending any DNS zonefiles to the rest of the Cluster. The DNS Path Diagram will only show servers that will send zonefiles to each other or one way.
For an example, please refer to the following images.
In the first image, all servers are set to 'Synchronize Changes, and all servers appear in the DNS Path Diagram.
In the second image, each Cluster server has a different DNS Role, and the 'Standalone' server no longer shows on the bottom of the page.
This is normal expected behavior.
