How to Set Up Calendars and Contacts

Question

How do I link the Calendars and Contacts features to my email client?

 

Answer

The steps to setup Calendar (CalDAV) and Contacts (CardDAV) will vary based on the email client being used. 

First, gather the required authentication information for the email account you are attempting to configure this for. This information can be found in Webmail / Calendars and Contacts Configuration.

The following will need to be obtained:

  • User Name — user@example.com 
  • Password — Enter the same password that you use for your webmail login. 
  • Server URL — https://example.com:2080 
  • Alternate Server URL — https://example.com:2080/principals/user@example.com/

Note: Some applications may not support Autodiscover. If the Server URL does not work, use the Alternate Server URL to bypass Autodiscover.

With this information, you can now configure your email client to sync Calendar and Contacts information. Below are the steps required for the Apple MacOS operating system, Thunderbird, and iOS mobile devices.

iOS
  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Tap Mail.
  3. Tap Accounts.
  4. Tap Add Account.
  5. Tap Other.
  6. Tap the option for the type of account to add:
    • To add a calendar account, tap Add CalDAV Account under CALENDARS.
    • To add a contacts account, tap Add CardDAV Account under CONTACTS.
  7. Enter your information in the appropriate text boxes.
  8. Tap Next.
  9. Set the Calendars toggle to enable the calendar.
  10. The Existing Local Calendars interface will appear. Tap Keep on My iPhone to keep your existing local calendars, or tap Delete to remove them.
  11. Tap Save.
MacOS

Note: The Automatic setup process cannot be used to setup Contacts. As such, it is recommended to use the Manual setup process.

  1. Select Manual in the Account Type menu.
  2. Enter your email address in the User Name text box.
  3. Enter your password in the Password text box.

  4. In the Server Address text box, enter the server name, and add :2080 at the end.

    Note: You must add :2080 at the end of the server name for the setup to work correctly.

  5. Click Sign In to save your changes.
     
Thunderbird

Note: Thunderbird requires that the Calendars and Contacts be configured separately. 

Calendars:

  1. Click the Calendars icon.
  2. Click New Calendar…. 
  3. Select On the Network, then click Next.
  4. Enter your email-account username in the Username text box.

  5. Enter your domain in the Location text box in the following format: https://example.com:2080

    Note: You must add :2080 at the end of the domain name for the setup to work correctly.

  6. Click Find Calendars.
  7. The Authentication Required - Mozilla Thunderbird interface will appear. Enter your email-account password in the text box, then click OK. The Create New Calendar interface will then be shown.
  8. Make sure that CalDAV is selected in the Calendar Type menu and the cPanel CalDAV Calendar checkbox is selected.
  9. Click Subscribe.
     

Contacts:

  1. Click the Address Book icon.
  2. Click the Create a New Address Book icon.
  3. Select Add CardDAV Address Book to show the New CardDAV Address Book interface.
  4. Enter your email-account username in the Username text box.

  5. Enter your domain in the Location text box in the following format: https://example.com:2080

    Note: You must add :2080 at the end of the server name for the setup to work correctly.

  6. Click Continue. The Authentication Required - Mozilla Thunderbird interface will appear.
  7. Enter your email-account password in the Password text box, then click OK. The New CardDAV Address Book interface will be shown.
  8. Make sure the cPanel CardDAV Address Book checkbox is selected.
  9. Click Continue. The cPanel CardDAV Address Book will now appear in the All Address Books section.
